Procedures to Join

Procedures for joining the Ann Arbor Area Board of REALTORS®

After a license has been issued by the state, the licensee fills out the membership application form which must be signed by Broker/DR.

The licensee then comes into the Board office with the application, a copy of their real estate license (or a printout from DLEG's "Verify a License" Web site) and payment of the $400 one-time application fee plus the pro-rated annual dues.

The licensee is immediately granted a provisional REALTOR® membership with all the rights and privileges of REALTORS®. They also receive a new member packet containing instructions for taking the NAR Code of Ethics (COE) training online. COE training must be completed within 60 days of membership application.

Within a few days of applying, they receive an email with their user name and password to access the MLS and their NRDS number needed for taking the COE training online. MLS access is stopped and membership is suspended if they do not complete the COE within 60 days of membership application.

After completion of the COE training, (a Certificate of Completion issued by NAR must be forwarded to the Board office), they will be scheduled for a 1-day orientation class that will continue the discussion on the Code of Ethics, and cover the NAR Pathways to Professionalism, Safety, and Anti-trust issues. The afternoon consists of MLS training.

Per the AAABoR Bylaws, the above procedure is to be initiated within 30 days of the license being issued by the state or if the licensee does not wish to join the Board, the Broker/DR must:

Fill out the Non-Member Salesperson (NMS) application (available from our Web site), sign the application and submit with payment of pro-rated dues (no application fee). The licensee will be added to our database as an "NMS" and the Broker/DR will be responsible for all Board related financial obligations of licensee and any Code of Ethics charges. The NMS will not be allowed to use the trademarked symbol or the term REALTOR®, attend member functions, vote in any elections or share in any other member benefit.
