Continuing Education Tips and Requirements
for Real Estate Licenses

  1. You MUST obtain continuing education credits EACH year of the 3-year license cycle. The easiest way to ensure that you meet the license renewal requirements for continuing education is to complete at least 6-hours of continuing education (including the mandatory 2-hour legal update) EACH year.

  2. Verify that the courses you complete are approved. You DO NOT receive credit for courses that are not approved by the state. You also DO NOT receive credit for duplicate courses.

  3. Check your continuing education credits online. This way, you can ensure that all your hours are posted correctly. This cycle's approved courses begin the the letter "K".

  4. There is no "first year" waiver for continuing education. You are required to complete continuing education in the year that you obtain your license.

  5. You may choose to send your license back to the State of Michigan if you will be "inactive" in the business for a while. This will change the status of your license on the Department Website. When you want to practice again (have an active license), you MUST complete the required continuing education requirements.
