AAABoR Committees

AAABOR Committees

Committees are very important in our Association. It's through our volunteer committees that the Association can pursue its goals and target our efforts on issues that most affect you in the industry.

Education Committee 2016

Chairperson: Jodie Franklin, Berksire Hathaway HomeServices

Goals of the Education Committee:
1. To identify and present educational opportunities that best meet the membership needs.
    A. Reccomend Designation courses.
    B. Identify opportunities and topics for timely local education (e.g., seminars, panels, roundtables, etc.).
2. Educate and promote environmental awareness.
    A. Administer Environmental Awareness Award
3. Promote Fair Housing awareness and education.
    A. Use Board communication vehicles to promote souces of Fair Housing materials available to REALTORS®

All appointments to this committee are for a term of two years.

Finance & Investment Committee 2016

Chairperson: Todd Lands, Treasurer, The Charles Reinhart Company

Staff Liaison: Doug Swartz

Goals of the Finance Committee:
1. Review financial statements and cash receipts & disbursements on a quarterly basis, noting budget variances.
2. Review annual budget as prepared by staff and make recommendations for final budget amounts to the Board of Directors.
3. Review capital expenditure budget as prepared by staff and make recommendations for final amount to the Board of Directors.
4. Monitor operational cash reserves on a quarterly basis and make recommendations to the Board of Directors, as necessary, concerning replenishing shortages and investing excess reserves.

Goals of the Investment Committee:
1. Review the previous year's investment results with the Board's investment representative.
2. Receive and review quarterly investment reports.
3. Review the Board's investment strategy and investment guidelines and make investment recommendations to the Board of Directors.
4. Review the current year's investment results in the third quarter.

The Investment Committee consists of the Finance Committee members, Executive Officer and Director of Finance and Administration.

President-Elect is required to attend all Finance Committee meetings.

President-Elect and Treasurer-Elect serves on committee per policy.

President-Elect serves a one year term. One member is appointed from the MLS committee and serves a one year term. All other appointments to this committee are for a term of two years.

Nancy Merdzinski and Doug Swartz are continuing members of the Investment Committee.

Governmental Affairs Committee 2016

Goals of the Governmental Affairs Committee:
1. Promote RPAC I & II to the Board of Directors, REALTORS® and Affiliate members.
    A. Identify and implement strategies to meet yearly RPAC goals set by the Michigan REALTORS®.
    B. Create strategy to reach every member with RPAC message.
2. Create awareness of local, state and federal legislation affecting the real estate industry.
    A. Explain RPAC at Orientation programs and office visits.
    B. Communicate legislative updates to members.

All appointments to this committee are for a term of two years.

Grievance Committee 2016

Goal of the Grievance Committee:
1. Receive, investigate and process, on a timely basis, complaints alleging violations of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics by members of the Board, and those requesting arbitration of business disputes.

Prerequisite:
This committee has nine positions. Each position is appointed for a three year term with three positions expiring each year. Persons must be active REALTOR® members for two years to be eligible to serve on the Grievance Committee. In addition, appointed members must attend a Board approved Professional Standards Training program. Only one person from a company may be appointed to the Grievance Committee. Members should be willing to serve on the Professional Standards Committee for a three year term at the end of their Grievance Committee Term.

Multiple Listing Committee 2016

Goals of the Multiple Listing Committee:
1. Monitor the operation of MLS activity of the Board. Including maintenance of the ML database.
2. Review enhancements for the MLS.
3. Review and recommend necessary changes to the MLS Rules and Regulations and operating policies.

The ML committee has eleven positions. Any single real estate firm may not have more than two active members serving on the committee at the same time. All appointments to this committee are for a term of two years, with five expiring one year and six the next year.

Professional Standards 2016

Staff Liaison: Nancy Merdzinski, Chief Executive Officer

Goals of the Professional Standards Committee:
1. Hold formal hearings to resolve charges of unethical conduct by members, as provided in the Bylaws and the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual.
2. Arbitrate disputes among members fairly, and offer mediation services, in accordance with the Bylaws.

Prerequisite:
A total of at least thirty-six individuals are appointed for three year terms, with twelve positions expiring each year. Prior to appointment to the Professional Standards Committee, members should first serve on the Board Grievance Committee to ensure training in the ethics area. Appointed members must attend a Board approved Professional Standards Training program.
